Installing VLC player

The VLC media player is an open source media player, distributed under the GNU General Public License. It is a highly portable multimedia player that supports many audio and video codecs and file formats as well as DVDs, VCDs and various streaming protocols. It is able to stream over networks and to transcode multimedia files and save them into various different formats.

Method1: Installing VLC media player via wine

VLC Media Player
Search the following packages by googling.


  1. rpm -ivh wine-core-1.1.9-1.el5.test.i386.rpm
  2. vlc-1.1.5-win32.exe



Step1: Install the wine rpm package:
# rpm -ivh rpm -ivh wine-core-1.1.9-1.el5.test.i386.rpm
Step2: open the vlc-1.1.5-win32.exe via Wine Loader:
Right click on vlc-1.1.5-win32.exe and open with "Wine Windows Program Loader".

Step3: Play the desireable video or audio file.
